Build a proton NMR exercise. I get a molecular formula, a spectrum, and a short list of structures that share that formula. The spectrum should look like a real one: integrals, splitting, and the way multiplets lean when the magnet is weak. Chemical shifts can be slightly off a textbook value, so I should lean on the splitting and the integrals. The spectrum is split into numbered regions with areas that add up to the number of hydrogens. I pick a structure, and then I can assign each region to a site on that structure. Getting the structure right is most of the score. Assignments only count if the structure is right. After I submit, show the true structure and which site each region was. Several molecules, including one at a low spectrometer frequency where the multiplets get messy. The same problem should show the same spectrum.
